Various Towns, SD, MN Tornado Damage, July 1938
TWO KILLED, 12 HURT IN WIND STORMS IN S. DAKOTA, MINNESOTA.
Minneapolis, July 10 (AP) -- Widespread tornadic and rain storms over parts of Eastern South Dakota and Southwestern Minnesota Saturday night caused deaths to two persons, injuries to a dozen others and property damage of several hundred thousand dollars.
Hardest hit were Andover, in Day County, South Dakota, and Madelia, Watonwan County, Minnesota.
Near Andover, MRS. JOSEPH W. SCHURING, 55, was crushed to death when her home was demolished by a tornado, which also killed MRS. A. P. BRYANT, 76. Ten other persons were injured in that area, two requiring hospital treatment at Aberdeen. They are JOSEPH W. SCHURING and his daughter, ANNA, 22. Hospital attendants said they would recover. Several buildings in Andover and at Bristol, 15 miles to the east, were wrecked.
As the tornado swept into Minnesota, MRS. OLE REITEN, living near Hendricks, Minn., suffered a broken leg. Her home was crushed by the wind. She was taken to a Hendricks hospital.
