Marshfield, MO Tornado, Apr 1880
On April 18, 1880, a tornado measuring F4 on the Fujita scale struck the town Marshfield, Missouri. The tornado's damage path was 800 yards wide and 64 miles long.
99 people, about 10% of the population of Marshfield were killed, an additional 100 people were injured. All but 15 buildings in the town were destroyed.
The Webster County Courthouse (photo above left) sustained heavy damage, as the tornado ripped off the second floor of the building. Despite that, record loss was said to be minimal.
