President of Malden Common Council Loses Life in Lake Winnepesaukee, N. H.
Walter D. Martin, president of the common council of Malden, who has been spending the summer with his wife and two children on Pine island in Lake-Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire, was drowned in the lake yesterday noon while rowing in front of his cottage and within sight of his wife. Mr. Martin started out in a small boat for a row on the lake, his wife watching him from the piazza of their cottage. When about 50 feet from shore the boat capsized in a sudden squall. Mrs. Martin saw her husband sink and then she collapsed. He condition last night was said to be serious. Chester M. Morse, an intimate friend of the family in Malden, was telegraphed for yesterday and left at once for Pine island to take charge of the search for the body.
