NEW MEXICO STATE COED DIES IN ESTANCIA CRASH.
Estancia, New Mexico -- (Journal Special) -- A 24-year-old New Mexico State coed was killed early Sunday when a low-slung Italian-made sports car failed to complete the second turn at the NM 41 Santa Fe Railway crossing here.
Killed was MARY ADELINA RAMOS of Las Cruces.
The driver, Carl William Schwarting, 25, also a New Mexico State student and Las Cruces residnt, was uninjured.
The late-model sports car was traveling southward on NM 41. It completed the first sharp turn at the low-speed crossing where the highway turns abruptly westward, but after crossing the tracks it failed to complete the second turn at the point where the highway again turns southward. The vehicle struck a warning sign.
Estancia Marshal H. J. Sewell, Torrance County Sheriff Eloy Gonzales and Joe Holland of New Mexico State Police cooperated in the investigation.
