Aztec, NM Auto And Pickup Crash, Apr 1974
CRASH KILLS 7 PERSONS, 4 OF THEM UTAH CHILDREN.
Aztec, N.M. (AP) - A westbound Utah car carrying six persons and an eastbound pickup truck driven by a Shiprock, N.M., man crashed on U.S. 550 Sunday, killing all seven, state police said. Four of the dead were children.
Officers identified the driver of the pickup as HENDERSON TALK, 24, of Shiprock.
Occupants of the Utah car were identified by state police as RUBY MAE MERRITT, 30, of Aneth, Utah, the driver; PETER E. MERRITT, JR., 9; AMOS H. MERRITT, 6; KAREN WILMA MERRITT, 3; and BRIAN NEAL MERRITT, one month; and DAVID IGNACIO, 19, home town unavailable.
State police said the accident occurred one mile west of New Mexico 17 on U.S. 550 near this northwestern New Mexico in the Four Corners area.
Aneth, Utah, is a small village in the extreme southeastern corner of the state, south of Blanding.
