Yonkers, NY Disposal Plant Explosion, Feb 1960

Yonkers, N.Y. (AP) - An explosion, possible caused by sewer gas, rocked a Westchester County disposal plant Tuesday. Seven workmen were injured, three of them seriously.
About 13 other workers escaped injury because they were outside the brick and concrete structure. All of the injured men were inside when the blast suddenly reverberated through the building.
Overhead doors were shattered. The roof was ripped apart in several pieces. Four skylights were blown out. Several heavy slabs of concrete were dislodged from the roof and crashed to the ground. Some other concrete slabs were partly dislodged.
Falling debris damaged four automobiles, stored inside the building.
An investigation began to determine the exact cause of the blast.
