New York, NY Fires, Mar 1874


At 10:30 A. M. yesterday a fire occurred in a bedroom on the third floor of No. 548 Ninth avenue occupied by W. McGlynn. Damage, $100.

At 11:30 A.M. a fire occurred on the roof of the unoccupied house No. 75 East Ninth street, owned by M. Donaldson, caused by the cornice taking fire from sparks from an adjoining chimney. Damage $150.

At 1 P. M. a rear bedroom on the fourth floor of the tenement-house No. 123 Avenue C., occupied by Mary Smith, was discovered to be on fire, and before the flames were extinguished damage to the extent of $250 was sustained by owner of the building and the occupants of the premises.

At 9:30 o'clock last night a fire occurred on the top floor of the building No. 54 Vesey street occupied by E. Hess, manufacturer of paper boxes. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the damage to Hess will not exceed $1,500. The lower portion of the building is occupied by Bernard Buddle, dealer in glass-ware; damage $1,000. The premises are damaged to the extent of $500.
