Westfield, NY Two Auto Head-On Crash, Oct 1960

NEW YORK CRASH KILLS 7 PERSONS.

Westfield, N.Y. (AP) - Seven persons were dead Sunday as the result of the head-on crash of two automobiles Saturday night on a main highway near this southwestern New York village.
The sole survivor was reported in critical condition at a hospital.
All the victims were residents of Pennsylvania. Three were members of one family, two were father and son and the other two were brothers.
They were:
JAMES M. SHIPTON, 35, of McKean, Pa., his wife, JOAN, about 30, and their son JAMES, JR., 6; AUGUST P. MASON, 38, of Mercer, Pa., and his son AUGUST M., 13; LOUIS DE LOE and his brother CLYDE, 18, both of Emlenton, Pa.
MRS. SHIPTON died Sunday in Westfield Memorial Hospital. The others were killed in the crash on Route 5, four miles west of here.
MASON'S wife, HELEN (age unavailable) remained in critical condition.
It was the second multiple highway fatality in western New York within 24 hours. Four persons died in another two-car crash Friday night near Pavilion, Genesee County.
