Flushing, NY Steamer La Burgogne Drowning, Jun 1895
DROWNED AT SEA.
A Nephew of Col. Shepard Falls Overboard from La Burgogne.
Col. C. H. Shepard, of this city, was surprised and pained, this morning, to read in the New York papers of the drowning of his nephew, John Lawrence, of Flushing, L. I. The young man was a passenger on the steamer La Burgogne from Havre. Last Monday morning, he went on deck at an early hour and fell overboard in trying to catch his hat, which had been blown from his head. The vessel was stopped, boats lowered and a search made for two hours, but nothing was seen of the young man.
