Long Island, NY Long Beach Cottages Fire, Aug 1910

House of Cartoonist McManus and One Adjoining Are Destroyed.

Special to The New York Times.

LONG BEACH, L. I., Aug. 6.---Fire destroyed two cottages here to-day, causing a lost of about $25,000. The first cottage to burn was one being built for J. E. Larsch. The upsetting of a plumber's lamp is though to have started the blaze, which quickly spread to the cottage of George McManus, the cartoonist.

The Nassau Hotel's chemical fire engine was taken to the scene, but by the time they reached the cottages, the fire had made too much headway to be successfully fought. When the firemen arrived both cottages were in ruins.
