Dayton, OH Bridge Accident, Mar 1872

From Dayton.

Accident Dispatch to the Cincinnati Gazette.

DAYTON, O., March 20.--Contractor Morrison has put up the west span of the new Washington Street Bridge, across the Miami river, and today, while a large force of workmen were getting the central span in position, the staging gave way, and the iron material fell into the river with a crash. The workmen were considerably frightened, several of them were slightly bruised, but none were seriously injured. It is a mercy that none were killed. This accident will simply cause a brief delay. The structure is expected to be completed for public use by the first of May.
