Pond Creek, OK Head On Crash Kills Five, May 1957

FIVE KILLED IN CAR COLLISION.

Pond Creek, Okla. (INS) - Five persons were killed in a splintering head-on crash late last night on U.S. Hwy. 81, six miles southwest of Pond Creek in north central Oklahoma.
The dead were:
EARL S. DECKER, 44;
and NEALIE LEROY DECKER, 50, both of Wichita, Kas.;
and NELSON LEROY DRAKE, 60;
MATTIE MUZZETTA THOMPSON, 50;
and EARL ALBERT THOMPSON, 57, all of Binger, Okla.
A sixth persons identified as LOREN E. DRAKE, 36, of Howard, Kas., was reported in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital at nearby Enid.

Both Cars Crushed.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Ormus Soucek said NEALIE DECKER was driving one of the cars south and the second vehicle, traveling north, was driven by NELSON LEROY DRAKE.
The trooper said the front ends of both cars were crushed in toward the windshields and that there were indications both cars were traveling at a fairly high rate of speed. He said the DRAKE auto, had pulled onto the shoulder of the highway in an apparent effort to avoid the collision.
