Portland, OR Woman Struck by Freight Train, Sept 1930


PORTLAND, Sept. 29. -- Her condition critical from loss of blood and shock, Mrs. Robert Phillips, widow of a Portland detective was near death here today.  She was struck by a freight train last night and suffered loss of here left leg just below the knee cap.  She had been walking along the track.  The train crew said they first saw her sitting on the rail and she apparently did not hear or see the locomotive.
