Pittsburgh, PA Basement Explosion, May 1890
We are sorry to learn that our friend and former townsman Frederick Keifer, of Center Avenue, Pittsburg, was severely burned on Sunday. Mr. Keifer and his three year old grandson, went to the basement for some purpose, and detected a peculiar odor, struck a match to see what it was. The instant he struck a match an explosion followed burning Mr. Keifer and the child severely but not dangerously, about the face and head.
