Pittsburgh, PA Steel Works Explosion, Mar 1891

FATAL EXPLOSION AT PITTSBURG.

Pittsburg, March 18. - An explosion at the Crescent steel works on 51st Street at 9:30 o'clock this morning killed one workman, fatally injured two more and slightly hurt six others.
The name of the killed and fatally hurt are:
Dead: FREDERICK BONNHUNT aged 40 years, married.
Injured: HANS WITTMAN, aged about 35 years, back broken, ribs broken and injured internally, will die;
JOHN GUSTAVISON, badly burned about the legs and trunk, will die.
Six other workmen were burned and cut by being hit by hot slag and flying bricks. Their injuries are not serious.
The explosion was caused by hot slag falling from the furnace into a pool of water. Very little damage was done to the mill.
