JET CRASHES DURING DEMONSTRATION.
Quonset Point Naval Air Station, R. I. -- In exercises at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station, a jet FJ3 Fury in low altitude maneuvers before a big Armed Forces Day crowd, exploded, crashed and burned.
Killed in the crash was the pilot LT. RAYMOND C. SHAW, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Shaw, Charlotte, N.C. He leaves his widow and a son, both of Wickford, R.I.
It was the next to last event on the program. The final event -- a demonstration of fighting fire in a plane crash -- was cancelled to send participants to the scene of the real crash.
