Providence, RI Factory Explosion, June 1844

The boiler of an engine in the steam engine manufactory of Messrs. BARTLETT & THURSTON, of Providence, exploded on Wednesday evening, destroying the brickwork about the boiler, and the roof and sides of the building in which it was contained.
Pieces of the boiler were thrown to a great distance and the glass was broken in the windows of ths buildings attached to the establishment. Fortunately no lives were lost, and no one was hurt at all but a man in a neighboring coal yard, who was knocked down and slightly injured in the head. This is said to be the third explosion of the kind in Providence within four years. Statesman.
