Providence, RI School Bus and Truck Collision, Jan 1984

Providence, R.I. (AP) - A 5-year-old kindergartener injured when a school bus taking him home collided with a tractor-trailer died Friday, becoming the third victim of the accident.
A spokeswoman at Rhode Island Hospital said RUSSELL GARDNER, of Rehoboth, Mass., died at 10 a.m. The child had been listed in critical condition at the hospital since the Jan. 10 accident.
Killed outright were the driver of the bus and the truck driver.
Two of the other 14 kindergarteners injured in the accident remain in satisfactory condition at Rhode Island Hospital, JESSICA CASTRO, 6, and RUSSELL MERRICK, 5.
Police said the tractor-trailer was headed east on Route 44 in Rehoboth when it struck a car being towed by Gravel's truck, which had pulled into the west-bound lane from Gravel's auto company. The semi then careened across the road and smashed head-on into the school bus.
