FIVE KILLED IN EXPLOSION.

Starch Mixer Blows Up at Providence Wrecking a Factory.

PROVIDENCE, R. I., Feb. 12.---Five workmen are believed to have been killed by explosion of a mixer in the three-story starch factory of C. S. Tanner at South Water and Silver Streets late this afternoon. Three negroes who were passing the building liberally about the neighborhood. The building was badly wrecked by the explosion and fire completed the work of destruction.
The cause of the explosion has not been determined. Mr. Tanner intimated to-night that it may have been due to a spark from defective wiring igniting the starch mixer prematurely.

The property loss was about $10,000.
