Newport, RI Boy Escapes Drowning, Jun 1914

Nephew of Mrs. Cameron Winslow Caught in Breakers Off Ocean Drive.

Theodore Mayer, 13 years old, grandson of the late Mrs. Theodore A. Havemeyer, and a nephew of Mrs. Cameron McRae Winslow, narrowly escaped drowning here, Tuesday. While playing on the rocks along the ocean drive he ventured too far out and was caught by a huge breaker, which rolled over him. He managed to cling to the rock until the waves receded, when he was dragged from his perilous position by his governess. The boy is with his aunt, Mrs. Winslow, wife of Rear Admiral Winslow, U. S. N. having just arrived here from Switzerland. He suffered no ill effects beyond the fright and a ducking.
