Orangeburg, SC Cotton Mill Fire, May 1911

Fire in Cotton Mill.

Orangeburg, May 4.-The Orange cotton mills of this city was the scene of a small fire this morning about 11 o’clock, which may have been a serious conflagration. In the picker room of the mill some cotton on the floor became ignited from a match, and soon that part of the mill was in flames. The automatic sprinklers soon were working well, and the fire was soon extinguished. A little cotton was damaged, but little of or no damage was done to the machinery.
