Knoxville, TN Head On Collision Kills Five, May 1959

FIVE KILLED IN HEAD-ON SMASHUP.

Knoxville, Tenn. (UPI) - Five persons were killed and two critically injured late Friday night in a grinding, head-on collision six miles south of Knoxville.
Witnesses said one of the cars, with three youths, was traveling on the wrong side of the road at a speed of about 100 miles an hour when it slammed into a car containing two couples.
Killed were the three youths and a Knoxville dentist and his wife.
The dead were:
ROBERT H. JORDAN, 19;
JOE S. GREENE, 18, both of Knoxville;
Greene's 22-year-old cousin, JACK M. GREENE, of New Tazewell, Tenn.;
MRS. BETTY JOYCE BASS;
and DR. KENNETH BASS, 32.
All but DR. BASS were instantly killed in the crash. DR. BASS died in Baptist Hospital about five hours after the accident.
MR. and MRS. ROBERT J. ALLISON, also of Knoxville, were critically injured in the wreck.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Persons who saw the accident said the cars were thrown 20 feet into the air by the impact.
