Merkel Man Killed by Auto

Big Spring, Aug. 12.-(RNS)-William Henry Keith, 24-year-old Merkel man, died instantly shortly before 9 p.m. Friday when he was struck by an automobile on U.S. Highway 80 a mile and a half east of Big Spring.

Investigating patrolmen “Red” Williams and Jack Taylor said Keith was apparently hitchhiking. Driver of the automobile was not identified.

Keith’s body was taken in the Eberley Funeral Home in Big Spring.

Auto Victim’s Rites Sunday

Merkel, Aug. 13. (RNS)-Funeral for William Henry Keith, 24, who was killed instantly Friday evening when struck by an automobile near Big Spring, will be conducted here Sunday afternoon.

Services will be at 3 o’clock in the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. R. N. Powers, pastor, officiating. Starbuck Funeral Home will direct burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Keith was apparently hitchhiking when struck by the car, investigating patrolmen “Red” Williams and Jack Taylor said. Driver of the auto was not identified.

The accident was shortly before 9 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 80, a mile and a half east of Big Spring.

Keith was born in Orange Cove, Calif., and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson M. Keith, to Merkel as a child. He attended Merkel schools.

Surviving him are his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Wanda Chandlers of Merkel and Mrs. Ruby Self of Locke, Ark.
