Entire Block Burned Out Near County Courthouse.

Fire at 4 o'clock Sunday Morning Was Far Beyond Control When Discovered.

Mount Vernon, Texas, March 14. - Fire at 4 o'clock Sunday morning destroyed the entire block of brick store buildings on the north side of the public square adjoining the courthouse. Among the losses are: Ennis-Tittle Company, general merchandise store, adjoining the courthouse, stock and building about $50,000, insurance $21,000; S. N. Laws & Son, groceries, loss $6,000, insurance $3,000; Laws Bros., hardware implements, $6,000, stock insurance $3,000. The buildings were owned by H. W. TITTLE and C. T. TITTLE. All buildings were insured.

The buildings and stocks of merchandise were total losses, as the fire was far beyond control before the alarm was given. Total loss will amount to about $65,000, with $32,000 insurance. The courthouse was slightly damaged.
