Waller, TX Two Car Collision Kills Nine, Nov 1957

NINE KILLED IN TEXAS AUTO CRASH.

Waller, Tex., Nov. 3. (AP) - Two cars smashed together on a black-top road last night killing nine persons, seven of them instantly. Four of the dead were children.
The accident occurred on Highway 290 about 41 miles northwest of Houston.
Five of the victims were tentatively identified by Dep. Medical Examiner Frank Murray as:
HENRY GAINES, 52, a Houston longshoreman, driver of one of the cars;
MRS. GERTRUDE GAINES, his wife;
MRS. HATTIE L. CUNNINGHAM, of Houston;
EMMA LEE CUNNINGHAM, 17, believed the daughter of Mrs. Cunningham;
WALTER M. NEWCOMB, 51, Hempstead, Tex., driving alone in his car.
The four unidentified victims were a 7 or 8 year old girl; a woman about 27; a boy about 15 months old and an infant.
State Highway Patrolman C. E. Morris, who investigated the crash, said the collision occurred at 7:42 p.m. He fixed the time by a smashed watch on the wrist of MISS CUNNINGHAM.
