Hillsboro, TX Three Car Crash Kills Six, Jan 1959

THREE CAR CRASH KILLS SIX.

Hillsboro, Texas (AP) - Highway patrolmen said the speedometer of one of the automobiles involved in the crash near Hillsboro was jammed at 110 miles an hour. Two cars collided head-on on U.S. Highway 81, and a third vehicle smashed into the wreckage a short time later.
The crash killed four persons outright. Two others died in a Hillsboro hospital, and two more suffered critical injuries.
The victims were identified as:
WESLEY WHITFIELD SMITH, 29, of Fort Worth;
ALICE WEST, 22;
GERTRUDE CHAPMAN, 45;
LEOLA CHAPMAN, 50;
BETTY JEAN MILLER, 22;
and WILLIE LOVE CHAPMAN, 52, all of Waco.
All except SMITH were Negroes.
