Wheeler, TX Two Car Crash Kills Four, Nov 1957


Wheeler, Tex. (UP) - Two five-year-old children remained in critical condition today from injuries suffered in a two-car smash-up Wednesday which took four lives.
The two children - ANGELIA KAY GIBSON, 5, and her half-brother, DAVID, also 5 - were in the Wheeler Hospital. ANGELIA suffered a brain hemorrhage and a brain surgeon arrived Thursday night to take car of her. Early today she was still considered critical and had not yet undergone surgery.
The children's mother MRS. J. B. GIBSON of Pampa, Tex., was killed in the collision as were HAROLD OSCAR DONHAM, 55, of Elk City, Okla.; MRS. REBA SHUMAKE of Lindsey, Okla.; and her sister MISS ANN JOHNSON, also of Lindsey.
DONHAM was alone in his car when it collided head-on with the car carrying the women and children on SH 152 near Wheeler.
DONHAM was on his way to Pampa to visit his daughter, Mrs. R. F. McDonald, for Thanksgiving and the women were going to Oklahoma to spend the holiday with their husbands, who are working in Oklahoma.
Two other children suffered minor injuries and were taken home by relatives from Chickasha, Okla. They were KAY GIBSON, 7, and LINDA SUE GIBSON, one and a half.
