Dimmitt, TX Two Car Head On Crash, Apr 1972

Dimmitt, Texas (AP) - A highway crash which took 10 lives and mild weather which encouraged outings helped send the violent death toll in Texas spurting upward during the Easter weekend.
The Associated Press tabulated reports of 32 fatalities between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Sunday, including 25 in traffic accidents.
Deputy Sheriff Rex Cowart reported he was pursuing a car at speeds up to 110 miles per hour Saturday night when it collided head-on with another one-half mile west of Dimmitt in the Texas Panhandle, and 10 young people died in the fused wreckage - five in each vehicle.
The officer said he gave chase after being summoned by a call for help because of a fight at home in the vicinity.
