Del Rio, TX Headon Crash Kills Eight, Nov 1971

EIGHT ARE KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT IN TEXAS TODAY.

Dal Rio, Tex. (UPI) - Eight persons, seven of them relatives riding in one car, were killed early today in the head-on crash of two cars on U.S. 90 east of Del Rio in the Rio Grande Valley.
Department of Public Safety patrolmen said a car driven by JOE KEY YORK, III, 18, of Bracketville, Tex., was speeding east on U.S. 90 on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a car driven by JOSE MEDINA VILLANUEVA, 31, of San Antonio.
YORK, who was killed, was the only person in his car.
Also killed in the car driven by VILLANUEVA was his wife, VICTORIA, 21; his two children, FRANK, 2, and CINDY, 1; and his sister, SYLVIA, 20. Two of the family's cousins were also killed. They were identified as LUPE CARDENAS, 17, and JUAN CARDENAS, 18.
Everyone in the VILLANUEVA car was from San Antonio.
