Aneth, UT Two Car Collision, Jul 2000
SEVEN KILLED IN UTAH ACCIDENT.
Aneth, Utah - Two cars collided on a highway on the Navajo Indian Reservation, killing three men and four women.
Tribal Police Chief Leonard Butler said the crash happened early Sunday on a dangerous stretch of Highway 262, between Aneth and Montezuma Creek about 285 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
The cars may have been speeding, Butler said.
"They were following each other and one of them lost control," he said. "It doesn't appear right now" that the occupants were drinking.
The wreck happened about a mile outside Aneth, a town of 2,700 on the reservation, which occupies the Four Corners region.
Butler said accidents occur frequently along that stretch of highway.
