Passenger Train Plunges Into A Burning Trestle

Coaches Carrying Human Freight Stop on Brink, Others Going Down.

Spokane, Wash., Aug. 21.-Seriously injuring Engineer Gillette and a mail clerk, the engine, baggage and mail cars of the southbound Spokane Falls & Northern passenger train plunged today through a burning trestle two miles south of Dart’s siding. The rest of the train remaining on the track.

Fortunately a coupling connecting the baggage cars with the rest of the train broke, leaving the two passenger cars standing on the brink above.

All the passengers escaped safely, but the blazing wreck set fire to the cars still on the track and all the coaches were burned.
