Logan, WV Private Plane Crash, Mar 1954
JOINT SERVICE SCHEDULED FOR PLANE CRASH VICTIMS.
Logan, March 30 -- (Special) -- Joint service will be held here at 11 a.m. Wednesday for a Logan County coal executive and his sister-in-law who died when their private plane crashed yesterday at McDonald Airport.
Rev. Arnold Poole will officiate at rites in the First Presbyterian Church for W. H. COOKE, 55, of Peach Creek, and MRS. ANNA MARIE COOKE, of Jackson, Tenn.
The bodies will be taken to St. Clair, Pa., where burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
MR. COOKE was general manager of Jewel Ridge Coal Co. and previously had been affiliated with coal companies at Omar in Logan County and Prenter in Boone County.
He had picked up his sister-in-law in Huntington and was bringing her here for a visit. As the plane started to land, it nose-dived into a clearing on a mountain. Witnesses said the plane might have stalled. It narrowly missed four houses on the edge of the clearing.
