Stevens Point, WI House Fire, Jul 1896
Damaged By Fire.
A residence occupied by Fred Thompson, corner of Prairie and Shautette streets, was badly damaged by fire last evening. The fire was discovered at about 9:30, and no one was home at the time. Mrs. Thompson and little daughter had gone out to call upon a neighbor, leaving a lighted lamp on a table in the bed room. This undoubtedly exploded, setting fire to the surrounding and spreading with great rapidity. The fire department turned out in quick time, and soon had the blaze under control, but much of the contents, including bedding, clothing and furniture, were rendered worthless by the fire and water, all of the little girl's clothing being destroyed except that which she wore. Mr. Thompson carried an insurance of $425 in the Thos. Hyde agency.
The house belonged to Mrs. Johanna Meier, and it was partially burned, it was insured for $300 in the Buckingham and Engberry agency.
