Durand, WI House Fire, Oct 1907

(Special to the Leader.)

Durand, Oct. 24.---Thursday forenoon at 11:30 fire broke out in the home owned by George Braford on Prospect street. The fire company responded to the call in a very active manner, but owing to the long distance which must be travelled before they could reach the scene of the burning building, the fire gained enormous headway, and the flames destroyed and damaged practically two-thirds of the residence. Mr. Braford is an elderly man and at the present time is our city marshal. It is understood that there was a small insurance covering the loss of the property, but the loss of a home is a hard trial, especially at this season of the year.
