Albany County, WY Private Plane Crashes, Aug 1968
3 ROTC STUDENTS ARE KILLED IN CRASH.
Laramie, Wyo. (AP) -- The bodies of three University of Nebraska ROTC students were recovered from the wreckage of their light plane 35 miles southeast of here Sunday.
They were reportedly flying from Lincoln, Neb., to San Francisco where they were to vacation following completion of ROTC exercises at Ft. Riley, Kan.
The Wyoming Civil Air Patrol identified the victims as:
PHILLIP DUNHAM, 22, the pilot from Lincoln.
RICHARD THOMASSON of Washington, D. C.
MATTHEW CATELLO, whose parents live in Independence, Mo.
A search for the plane began Saturday afternoon when it failed to complete its flight plan. A CAP pilot sighted the downed craft Sunday afternoon and a ground crew under the direction of the Albany County sheriff's office went to the scene.
The wreckage was in the Laramie Mountains about five miles east of the Sybille Game and Fish Commission Reservation.
It was the third light aircraft crash in Wyoming within two weeks.
