Elba, AL House Fire, Mar 1912

ELBA, ALA., March 24.---This morning at 1:30 o'clock the fire alarm was sounded, and it was discovered that the Rushing residence, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Jean Hammond, was in flames. When the alarm was first given the fire had covered the house and, although both fire companies turned out quickly, by the time the fire was put under control the residence was a mass of ruins. When Mr. and Mrs. Hammond awoke the flames had reached their room and they barely had time to get themselves and their baby out of the way of the flames, having to flee from the burning building only partly clad.
