7 KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION.

Yreka (AP) -- A station wagon drifted across a road 20 miles south of Yreka yesterday and collided head on with an automobile, killing seven persons 58 years old or more.
All six persons in the station wagon, died on the scene, in ranching and farming country along U.S. Route 99. The driver of the car was killed and his wife critically injured.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver of the northbound station wagon apparently lost control after making a right hand curve, drifted across the road, and collided with the automobile whose driver was trying vainly to brake and avoid the accident.
The injured woman was taken first to Siskiyou County General Hospital and then Medford Hospital in southern Oregon.
Route 99 is a two-lane road at the point of the accident.
The victims were LEONARD L. SMITH, 62; his wife, MARGUERITE; MORRIS PLYMATE, 71; DOROTHY PLYMATE, 67; NORMAN BEAUGHAN, 71; SIDONA BEAUGHAN, 71, all of Dunsmuir, and GEORGE S. WARD, 64, of Yreka.
WARD'S wife, CAROLINE, was injured critically.
The Siskiyou County sheriff's office said it was not yet known who the two drivers were.
