Belmont, CA Three Car Collision, Jun 1951

A Santa Cruz mother and her 18-month-old daughter were among five persons fatally hurt in a three-car crash on the Bayshore highway at Belmont yesterday.
The dead are:
ELMAREE WARD, 36, of Dos Palos;
HEZZIE HENDERSON, 36, of San Mateo;
and WADE HOGUE, 4, a relative of MRS. MAYFIELD and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Hogue of Dos Palos.
The injured are:
ELMER DEWEY MAYFIELD, 45, husband of Mrs. Mayfield.
NELDA BARTLETT, 16, and BARBARA PORTER, 13, both of Dos Palos, who are in the Community Hospital in San Mateo.
ROLAND CORLEY, 27, of San Mateo;
JOSEPH MARKS, 36, of San Mateo;
MRS. E. C. MEYER, 54, of Geyserville, and MRS. RAY BRACKETT, 42, of Mountain View.
CORLEY was taken to the Community Hospital and the other three to the Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City.
The only person in any of the three automobiles to escape serious injury is ERNEST C. MEYER, 66, of Geyserville.
All the dead except HENDERSON were in a party of seven from Dos Palos en route to the Southern Baptist convention in San Francisco.
The MAYFIELDS, who resided in Santa Cruz for a year and a half, recently returned to their former home city of Dos Palos. However, neighbors of the family during their residence at 714 River Street said they had planned to return to Santa Cruz in the near future.
MR. and MRS. MEYER were accompanied by their daughter, MRS. BRACKETT. HENDERSON and MARKS were riding with CORLEY.
Highway Patrol Officers John Cherry and Henry Edwards said the crash occurred when MAYFIELD apparently hooked bumpers as he pulled in ahead of MEYER'S car. The MAYFIELD car was knocked into an opposite lane, where it was hit by CORLEY'S southbound auto and smashed back against MEYER'S car.
