Madera, CA Two Car Collision Kills FIve, Oct 1959


Madera, Calif., (AP) - Five children - four from one family - were killed and four other youngsters injured in an auto collision at a rural intersection two miles east of Madera.
The youngsters were in a station wagon driven by LORRAINE CHANDLER, 32, wife of a Madera ranch-hand. The station wagon was hit by a car driven by HOWARD JORDAN, 17, of Madera.
Killed were PATRICIA, 14; SHERYL, 9; EARL, 6; and LONNIE, 4, all children of MRS. CHANDLER; and KAY FULLER, 11, a neighbors daughter.
Two other CHANDLER children, HAZEL LOUISE, 15, and JIM, 12, were in fair condition at Madera County Hospital. DONNA MEDLIN, 13, and JOYCE BOONE, 11, were slightly hurt. MRS. CHANDLER was hospitalized suffering from shock.
District Attorney Lester Gendron said MRS. CHANDLER had the right of way, JORDAN was jailed and charged with manslaughter.
