Newhall, CA Head On Auto Collision, Mar 1959
FOUR KILLED IN NEWHALL CRASH.
Newhall - Four persons were killed and four others injured Sunday night in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 6 about a mile south of Newhall.
Dead on arrival at Newhall Community Hospital were:
MRS. JANE WHITE, 28, wife of a Lancaster sheriff's deputy;
her daughter PAULA, 4;
and RONNIE HILLERD, 30, postal employee of Duarte.
BETTY RAINEY, 34, of Pacoima, became the fourth fatality when she died early yesterday in the same hospital.
MRS. WHITE'S husband, Deputy DONALD A. WHITE, 29, of Lancaster, was critically injured. Their sons, PAUL, 2, and DONALD, 6, received lesser injuries.
Also critically injured was JOHN S. ABS, 45, of North Hollywood, driver of the car in which HILLERD and MISS RAINEY were riding.
California highway patrolmen said the impact threw most of the victims from the cars and bodies were strewn along the highway about a half mile south of Highway 79B that leads into Newhall.
The C.H.P. said the ABS car, southbound on U.S. 6 and heading toward Los Angeles, jumped the divider on the upgrade and struck the car driven by Deputy WHITE. Both cars were total wrecks.
