6 GUESTS PERISH AS FIRE SWEEPS HOTEL.
Waukegan, Ill., Aug. 7 (AP) - Fire, which swept through the frame structure of the Maywood Hotel here early today caused the deaths of six men. The west wing of the building which housed the victims was burned to the ground before the fire was brought under control.
Origin of the fire, which did damage estimated at $20,000, was undetermined.
Tony Durka, proprietor, said he was aroused by a frightened guest who ran through the place sounding an alarm. He told firemen all the guests had made their way to safety but a roll call revealed six missing.
Making their was into the burning building firemen came upon their bodies.
The victims were:
JOHN DOZOL, 55.
ALBERT ZARNETSKY, 46.
ALEX OZWKIE, 46.
DANIEL CLACIR, 46, and
FELIX CILINNDRI, 55 - were suffocated.
The sixth, FRANK MARCUHAS, 39, was fatally burned as he lay in bed.
It is thought the fire originated in the boiler room and spread swiftly throughout the ancient wooden building.
