Shady Grove, MS Automobile Collision, June 1959
FIVE PERSONS HURT IN COLLISION HERE.
Five persons, including a mother and two children and another woman, all of Jackson, and a Jones County housewife were injured Monday when the automobiles in which they were riding collided on Highway 15 North, in the Shady Grove community.
State Highway Patrolman identified the injured Jackson group as MRS. MARGIE PERKINS, 31, sprained ankle and body bruises; her daughter, CYNTHIA, 10, bruises and shoulder injury; her five year old son, GLENN, cut arm; and her sister-in-law, MISS ALICE PERKINS, broken left leg.
The officer identified the injured Jones County housewife as MRS. GENEVE LOWE, about 65, a resident of the Shady Grove community. She received body injuries and other hurts, he said.
MRS. LOWE'S husband, W. H. LOWE, 70, the driver of the car in which she was riding, escaped injury.
MRS. PERKINS' husband, GLENN R. PERKINS, SR., 32, driver of the car in which she was riding, and their seven year old daughter, CAROL, also escaped injury in the crash.
Patrolman Valentine said the crash occurred when LOWE, northbound, attempted to turn left into a side road. He said the LOWE car was struck near the front by the oncoming southbound
PERKINS automobile. Neither car overturned, he said, but both were badly damaged.
The crash occurred near the Monday noon hour, Valentine said. He said rain was falling and the highway was slippery.
