McComb, MS Two Car Collision Kills Five, Apr 1959


McComb, Miss. (AP) - Five men were killed and a sixth injured slightly in a two car collision near McComb today.
The highway patrol said the two cars apparently collided on Highway 24, five miles west of McComb.
They tumbled along the highway for about 100 feet, strewing their occupants along the roadside.
One car caught fire and burned one of the victims.
Officers identified the dead as JOSEPH YGLESIAS, 26, of Baton Rouge, La. YGLESIAS was alone in a car headed east.
In a westbound car were five Hercules Powder Co. men headed from Hattiesburg to a job at Alexandria, La.
The four killed were GERALD R. REYNOLDS, 23, of New Augusta; LEWIS SHOWS, 63, of Waynesboro; W. W. BRELAND, 41, of Hattiesburg and HOWARD ROGERS.
ROGERS, 39, lived in Hattiesburg and was assistant woods supervisor for the Hercules Company.
The men were on their way to Alexander for a week's wood survey.
The injured man was DANIEL McDONALD, JR., of Petal. He was hospitalized at McComb for observation.
