FATAL EXPLOSION OF POWDER.

FIVE MEN KILLED AND A DOZEN OR MORE WOUNDED.

Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 24. -- Report reached here last night of an explosion of powder in Wilkes County, where blasting is going on for a railroad. A great quantity of rock was thrown up by a premature blast, and fell upon a number of workmen. Many were injured, and five were killed, as follows:
SAMUEL CULLS, aged 23.
THOMAS ENROY, aged 38.
J. B. FALLS, aged 26.
GEORGE HENDLEY, aged 41.
EUGENE MOORE, aged 19.
It is impossible to obtain a list of the wounded at this writing, but reports say that thirteen are hurt, among whom is Superintendent ELBER.
