Ryan, OK Drug Store Fire, Feb 1897
Ryan I.T., Feb. 8.—At 2:30 this morning fire was discovered in the drug store of Dr. J. R. Davis & Bro. and in a few minutes the whole building was in flames. By prompt and energetic work on the part of the citizens the fire was prevented from spreading, though at one time the roof of the adjoining building belonging to Ralls & Garrison was on fire and the upper windows of the next building, being the courthouse, were drawn and cracked by the heat. Losses as follows: Davis Bros.' house, $800, stock $300, insured for $2000 in the Philadelphia Underwriters, Pennsylvania Fire and London and Liverpool and Globe: Grabbs & Johnson, jewelers, $100, no insurance; Ralls & Garrison, damage to building and stock estimated at $2500 to $3,000, fully insured.
