Orangeburg, SC Auto And Train Crash, Apr 1993


Orangeburg (AP) - At least five people died and one person was injured when a train crashed into a car at the Orangeburg County Industrial Park.
The accident occurred around 8 p.m. Monday at Roseville Road on Prosperity Drive. The injured person was taken to the hospital, according to Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall.
The coroner said three of the victims were adults and two were children.
State Highway Patrol Trooper J. N. Nell and other troopers on the scene wouldn't give further details from the accident site.
Nell said he would not release the names of those who died until their families had been notified.
The Orangeburg County Star rescue team used the jaws of life to get the bodies from the wreckage, according to state troopers.
Nell said he didn't think he would have further information on the accident until later today.
