Tucapau, SC Tyger River Drowning, May 1908

Washed Up on Bank of Tyger River Near Reidsville---Funeral Will be Held Today.

Special to The State.

Union, May 29.---A special telephone message to Progress from Reidville at 6 o'clock this afternoon says that the body of Dr. Leonard, who was drowned last Monday, had just been found on the banks of Tyger river, partly covered with sand, and when the special messenger brought the news to Reidville, two and a half miles distant, the body had not then been taken from the river.

A severe storm passed over that community this afternoon and it is thought caused the body to be washed up where it could be seen. The funeral will be at the Presbyterian church tomorrow.

Spartanburg, May 29.---The body of Dr. T. D. Leonard, who was drowned in a pond near Tucapau on last Monday, was found this afternoon at 5 o'clock. Searching parties have been constantly at the pond, but until this afternoon there was no sign of his body, though the body of Rev. C. A. B. Jennings was found Tuesday morning. The body was much disfigured by reason of having been submerged in the water for four days. The body was found on a log almost half a mile from where the seine was discovered, where it is supposed he first went down. The burial will take place at Sharon church in Reidsville tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock.
